The
Writers Workshop at Chautauqua
This summer, spend a week
learning from and getting to know children's book and
magazine editors, award-winning authors, and prize-winning
illustrators. Work one-on-one with a publishing professional
to polish and shape your manuscript. Wander shady streets
between historic gingerbread houses with people who
are eager to talk about writing for children. Sit on
a porch and critique manuscripts, grab a coffee or
dip into a bowl of ice cream, experience creative renewal
in a unique setting. |

Founders
Workshops
In May 2000, we piloted a small workshop
at the former home of the Founders of Highlights for Children,
near the Highlights office in northeastern Pennsylvania.
These workshops have grown to almost two dozen offerings a year. They are typically single-topic sessions, three or four
days, with eight to fifteen participants. Like the Chautauqua
workshops, these sessions are led by successful, supportive authors
and editors determined to help writers meet their goals.

Whole
Novel Workshops
A new program, founded and directed
by Carolyn Coman and specifically designed for writers of middle-grade
and young-adult novels, our Whole Novel Workshop offers the
one-on-one attention to be found in degree programs, but without
additional academic requirements, lengthy time commitments,
or prohibitive financial investments. Our aim is to focus on
a specific work in progress, moving a novel to the next level,
in preparation for submission to agents or publishers.
